Come watch and/or participate in a gamelan workshop with internationally renowned master musician Ki Midiyanto. See and hear UMBC’s newly tuned gamelan, a gong chime orchestra from Central Java, and learn the fundamentals of gamelan performance.

Ki Midiyanto is a renowned Javanese musician, composer, and dhalang (puppetmaster). He has performed in Indonesia, Singapore, New Zealand, Canada, Australia, and the United States. An eleventh-generation dhalang, he studied gamelan and shadow puppetry in Surakarta at Sekola Tinggi Seni Karawitan (Indonesian Academy of Musical Arts) and earned an MAT at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon. He currently directs the University of California, Berkeley gamelan ensemble.
