The Albin O. Kuhn Library Gallery presents Louie Palu: Distant Early Warning, on display from February 14 through May 20. The exhibition, a multi-year project by Canadian photojournalist Louie Palu, provides a look at the evolving militarization in the North American Arctic driven by climate change.

North Pole Narratives

The Albin O. Kuhn Library Gallery presents North Pole Narratives: Photographs from the Wendorff Collection on Robert E. Peary, on display from February 3 through May 20. At the turn of the twentieth century, an international race was under way to be the first to reach the geographic North Pole. On April 6, 1909, American explorer Robert E. Peary (1856–1920) claimed to have clenched the title. This exhibition revisits Peary’s Arctic expeditions through photographs in UMBC’s Wendorff Collection.

Visual Arts Senior Exhibition

Center for Art, Design and Visual Culture (CADVC)

The Center for Art, Design and Visual Culture and the Department of Visual Arts present the Visual Arts Senior Exhibition, featuring work of graduating seniors in photography, graphic design, cinematic arts, animation and interactive media, and print media, reflecting the interdisciplinary orientation and the technological focus of the department. An Opening Reception will be held on Tuesday, May 24, from 5 to 7 p.m.

UMBC is pleased to welcome the Nature Sacred Firesoul Network to join our monthly Wellness Wednesday event at 12 noon on July 6, and the public is invited too! In partnership with Chesapeake Mental Health Collaborative's Center for Nature Informed Therapy, and supported by Nature Sacred, this forest meditation and nature therapy session integrates traditional therapeutic methods with the healing effects of nature to restore and rejuvenate the mind and body.
