David D. Marshall, sopranist

After a seven year hiatus, noted singer David D. Marshall returns to the concert stage with a program of arias. At this performance, Marshall will for the first time perform in a higher vocal range, having transitioned from a tenor to a sopranist.

Marshall made his debut with the Garden State Opera Company of New Jersey as Calandrino in Mozart’s Loca Del Cairo, and was one of Opera Ebony’s Young Artists during the 2012–2013 season. Marshall has covered the roles of Hob in Vaughn Williams’ The Poisoned Kiss and Don Ottavio in Mozart’s Don Giovanni with the Bronx Opera Company of New York. Additional operatic roles have included Sam in Kurt Weill’s Street Scene and Peter in George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess. He is a two time Rosa Ponselle Opera Competition honorable mention award winner.

David Marshall earned a B.A. from UMBC and an M.M. from Shenandoah Conservatory. He also studied at Peabody Preparatory, the Nathan Carter School of Music, and Morgan State University. His teachers included Janice Jackson, Michael Forest, and David Smith.
